Verdict
Verified on-chain
The SHA-256 hash recomputed from the current DPP payload matches both the database record and the value stored immutably in the on-chain smart contract.

How verification works
Each Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a structured data record describing a construction product. When a DPP version is published, the platform computes a SHA-256 hash of the canonical payload and stores it on a public blockchain.
Step 1: Canonical hashing
The JSON payload is sorted, serialised in a deterministic order, and hashed using SHA-256. This produces a unique fingerprint of the data at publication time.

Step 2: On-chain anchoring
The hash is submitted to a smart contract on a public EVM-compatible blockchain (e.g. Polygon). The contract stores the hash alongside the passport identifier and version number. Once mined, this record is immutable.

Step 3: Independent verification
Anyone can verify a DPP by recomputing the SHA-256 hash from the current payload and comparing it to the value stored on-chain. If they match, the data has not been modified since publication.

The full DPP payload stays in the platform database. Only the cryptographic hash is stored on-chain — no personal or sensitive data is published to the blockchain.
Important disclaimer
Blockchain verification proves the integrity of the published DPP snapshot — it confirms the data has not been modified since anchoring. It does not constitute certification, validation, or endorsement of the accuracy, completeness, or truthfulness of the product information contained in the DPP. The data is provided by the product manufacturer under their own responsibility.
